Snow-covered Gilford home with a heavy snow slab on the roof beneath a ski mountain in the distance

Gutter Service in Gilford, NH

Gilford sits at the foot of Gunstock Mountain, about 1 hour 15 minutes and 55 miles from our Hampstead base by our estimate. We cover the town, where ski-season snow loads and lake homes that are checked only a few times a year are the two things that decide what a gutter needs. Trips this far out are booked ahead.

Gilford has a mountain at its back and a lake at its front, and both affect the gutters. Winters here are heavy on the roofs, and the lake means houses that sit quiet for weeks at a time.

Snow that comes off the roof in one piece

Gunstock Mountain Resort was built by the Works Progress Administration and finished in 1937, and Belknap County still owns it. For a homeowner in town the point is simple: this is ski country, and winter loads here are heavy. Snow sits on a roof, a warm afternoon releases the bottom layer, and a cold night freezes the rest at the eave.

Seams and hangers take that strain every year. On a slick or steep roof the whole slab can drop at once onto the gutter below. That is where snow guards and a stronger hanging pattern earn their keep, and it is why we look at what sits under the eave before we recommend anything.

Lake homes that nobody checks in January

The median Gilford home was built in 1983, and 93% are owner-occupied (ACS 2020-24). Some houses near the water are seasonal homes, checked only a few times a year. A clog that starts in October can sit through the whole winter before anyone sees it.

On a roof that sheds in slabs, how the gutter is hung matters as much as the gutter. We check hanger spacing and the condition of the fascia, and we tell you straight whether a repair will hold or the run needs replacing.

More than a quarter lake

Gilford covers about 54 square miles, and nearly 15 of them, 27.6%, are water (Census figures). The town lies on the southern shore of Lake Winnipesaukee and on the northern slopes of the Belknap Range, and Belknap Mountain, at 2,384 feet, stands within it. That puts many roofs on a slope above water. Downspouts there empty onto ground that falls toward the lake, so we look at where each extension sends the runoff.

Glendale, NH 11 and Gunstock's slopes

NH 11 crosses Gilford east to west between Laconia and Alton, and the village of Glendale sits on the lake. Gunstock has about 227 skiable acres between a base near 900 feet and a summit near 2,300 feet. Homes on its slopes sit higher than shoreline lots a few miles off, so a roof below the ski area may hold snow longer than a lakefront one.

What customers say

“Caio came out promptly to look at our 30,000 square foot commercial building in Plaistow and provided an estimate that evening. He came back a week later and did a wonderful job cleaning all of the gutters.”

“I had a great experience working with Caio. I needed snow guards installed and gutters lowered and replaced. He was thorough, communicative, on top of the project, and the results were perfect.”

Gutter questions from Gilford

Do snow guards make sense on a Gilford roof?

Often, yes, on roofs that shed snow in one slide, such as slick or steep ones above a door, deck or walkway. Snow guards hold snow on the roof so it melts off in stages. We can look at the pitch, the surface and what sits below the eave, then tell you plainly whether they or sturdier gutters fit the roof.

Can you clean a Gilford lake house gutter before we close up for winter?

Yes, ask us. A trough full of wet leaves freezes solid and pulls on the hangers, so a late-fall cleaning before you leave helps. We book Gilford visits ahead, since it is about 55 miles out, so call in October if you want it done before the first hard freeze.

Do Gilford pine needles get through gutter guards?

Some do. Fine mesh stops most leaves and needles, but small debris can still build on top, and coarse screens let needles drop into the trough. Gilford has pine and hemlock on many lots near Gunstock and the lake, so we match the guard to the debris on your roof. Visits are booked ahead.
