Gutter Service in Belknap County, NH

Belknap County is lake country. Lake Winnipesaukee runs along its eastern side and Lake Winnisquam along its west, and the housing is a mix of year-round homes, older city and village streets, and seasonal places that sit empty for months. The nearest town we cover is roughly 55 minutes and 40 miles from our Hampstead base, so trips here are booked ahead.

Belknap County mixes city, village, ski and lake housing. Laconia is the county seat, a lake city with older housing, and the towns around it are lake villages, ski country and rural farmland. The median home was built in 1979, and 80% are owner-occupied (ACS 2020-24). Behind those numbers sit very different roofs.

Three kinds of Belknap roof

The first is the lake house. Along Lake Winnipesaukee and Lake Winnisquam, homes catch wind off the water, carry heavy snow loads and often sit under pine. Meredith, Alton and Gilford all have that shoreline, and some of the houses are seasonal, empty for long stretches. A clogged gutter on a house nobody visits in January is a problem that grows unseen.

The second is the older city or village house. Laconia, Belmont and Tilton hold older streets with deep eaves, wood fascia and tight lots. There, the work is repair, rehanging and sometimes a full replacement once the fascia has been checked.

The third is the rural house on a wooded lot, as in Barnstead and Gilmanton. Trees are the main issue, and so is distance from the road.

Lake water and the Belknap Range

Belknap County covers about 469 square miles, and roughly 68 of them, 15%, are water (Census figures). Most of that is Lake Winnipesaukee. Lake Winnisquam adds about 4,200 acres on the west side and touches Laconia, Belmont and Tilton. The Belknap Range rises between the two lakes in Gilford, Gilmanton and Alton, so there are hillside lots as well as shoreline ones.

The two settings ask different things of a gutter. A hillside roof sheds snow in slabs onto whatever sits below it. A shoreline roof takes wind and damp air, and its downspouts often empty onto ground that slopes toward the water. With a median build year of 1979, many roofs here are on a second set of gutters.

Snow, ice and what the county asks of a roof

Gunstock Mountain Resort in Gilford is owned by Belknap County, which tells you what kind of winter this is. Ice weighs about 57 to 60 pounds per cubic foot, and a packed gutter can carry a lot of it. Ice dams form when attic heat melts snow that refreezes at a cold eave, and better insulation and ventilation are the real fix. Our job is the gutter side: clean troughs, sound hangers, and winter gutter protection where the roof sheds in slabs.

Exit 20, Route 3 and the roads in

Interstate 93 reaches the county at Exit 20 near Tilton, where US 3 and NH 11 head east toward Laconia and Lake Winnisquam. NH 140 runs about 21 miles east from that exit to Alton, and US 3 carries on north along the lakes toward Meredith. Those roads set our drive times, which stretch from an hour to the nearest town to well past it for Meredith.

How trips here work

Belknap County is one of our farther areas. The nearest town is about 55 minutes from Hampstead, and Meredith is closer to an hour and a half. We book visits ahead and may group yours with other jobs nearby, so a two-house street or a neighboring town can share a trip. Give us your address, your roof height and what you see. We price each job in writing after we have looked.

Belknap County lies next to Carroll County, where only the southern lake side falls within our range.

What customers say

“He called me on Tuesday to tell me that there is rain expected and he would like to move the job up to Wednesday (today). I thought that was very professional of him to reach out and reschedule.”

Gutter questions from Belknap County

Which Belknap County towns do you cover for gutter work?

We cover Barnstead, Gilmanton, Alton, Belmont, Tilton, Gilford, Laconia and Meredith, working outward from the nearest. Belknap has eleven municipalities. For one we have not listed, such as Center Harbor, Sanbornton or New Hampton, call with the address and we will tell you plainly whether it falls in range.

How soon can you get to a Belknap County home?

Belknap is a long trip, from about 55 minutes to the nearest town to roughly 1 hour 30 minutes to Meredith, so visits are booked ahead and may be grouped with other jobs nearby. We will not promise fast service. Call with your address and what the gutters are doing, and we will set the earliest visit we can.

Should a Belknap County seasonal home have its gutters cleaned in fall?

Yes, a fall cleaning before you close up is the best single step. A clogged trough freezes into a heavy block that pulls on the hangers all winter, and with January snowfall near 18.8 inches at Laconia (NOAA normals), nobody is there to notice. Book early in October, because lake-side visits are scheduled ahead and the weeks before the first hard freeze fill quickly.
