  8. Common questions

Lee is not a town of tight lots and neighbors close at hand. It is rural, and 96% of its homes are owner-occupied (ACS 2020-24). The median home was built in 1987, so many are on their first or second set of gutters, under tall hardwoods.

What the trees and lots mean for gutters

Houses on big wooded lots have gutters that deal with leaves most of the year. Oak and maple drop in fall, and pine needles settle in the trough through much of the year. Gutter cleaning once or twice a year keeps water moving to the downspouts.

If you are tired of that cycle, ask about gutter guards. We would size one to your trees and roof, and we would tell you where one will not help.

For a sense of scale, Today's Homeowner puts cleaning at about $1.10 per linear foot, roughly $220 for 200 feet of gutter. That is a third-party estimate, not our price. Height, roof pitch and how packed the trough is all change the real number, so we price each job in writing after seeing it.

Homes from the 1980s and what they need

With a median build year of 1987, many Lee homes are 35 to 40 years old. At that age, a gutter system can have dried seams and hangers that have loosened. Replacing it with seamless gutters removes seams along the run, which are common failure points in older sectional systems. Ask any installer which thickness the quote uses, and get it in writing.

The traffic circle and the Durham line

Lee sits where Route 4 and Route 125 meet at the traffic circle, with Durham on its eastern edge. That puts it close to the University of New Hampshire without being a campus town. The town also touches Barrington, Madbury, Nottingham, Epping and Newmarket, and the Lamprey, North and Oyster rivers all run through it.

Where a lot has a septic field or a well, roof water should drain away from both. Tell us where yours sit and we will plan the downspout outlets around them.

Low relief, three rivers and what the roof sheds

Lee is flat country by New Hampshire standards. The town's highest point is 272 feet above sea level, and the Lamprey, North and Oyster rivers drain it. With so little slope, a downspout that empties beside a foundation has few places to send the water. A longer extension, or an outlet turned toward the lowest and driest part of the lot, does more than a bigger gutter.

Ice is the other winter risk. When attic heat melts snow on a roof and the water refreezes at the cold eave, an ice dam forms with or without gutters. Insulation and ventilation are the fix, and a gutter that has been pulled loose by ice needs its fascia checked before it is rehung.

Lee Town Hall, the Grange and Little River Park

Lee's center holds Lee Town Hall, which is on the New Hampshire State Register of Historic Places, plus the First Congregational Church, the Lee Library, the Jeremiah Smith Grange and the Lee Historical Society and Museum. Wheelwright Pond and Little River Park are also in town.

Houses near that older center may be far older than the 1987 median, so we look at the fascia, trim and roof edge before suggesting new gutters. Whether a gutter job needs a permit is a question for the Lee town office, since NH permits are handled town by town.

Gutter questions from Lee

Does Lanes Gutters work in Lee, NH?

Yes, we cover Lee, and our HomeAdvisor profile shows up for the town. It is the closest Strafford County town we list, about 30 minutes from Hampstead. We schedule visits ahead and write a price after we see the roof.

Do wooded Lee lots need gutter guards?

Many do. Large lots with mature hardwoods put leaves in the trough every fall, and a clogged gutter overflows at the eave. Guards cut that work down, though they do not replace an occasional check. We can look at the trees over your roof and tell you what we would put on.

What should I tell you when I call about gutters in Lee?

Start with the address, the roof type and what you see, such as overflowing, sagging or a leak at a corner. A rough gutter length helps too. We give a written price after a visit. Because Lee is 30 minutes out, we will confirm a time that works.
