New Castle is about as far from a typical suburb as our service area gets. It is an island, and its gutter jobs answer to old houses, small lots and salt.

Antique houses and a third built before 1940

Almost a third of New Castle's homes, 32%, date from before 1940, and the median home was built in 1975 (ACS 2020-24). An older house carries more wear in its trim than a newer one. Before any gutter goes on, we look at the fascia, because new hangers need something sound to fasten to.

Copper and half-round come up on houses like these. We have not confirmed either as a service, so call and ask before planning around us.

Salt air on every roofline

On the island, there is no inland side. Wind off the harbor and the ocean carries salt to every house, near Fort Constitution and out toward Wentworth by the Sea. Steel parts rust, and fasteners suffer first. Aluminum gutters don't rust, and you should ask any installer which hangers and screws go with them.

An island with two bridges and a causeway

New Castle covers about 500 acres of land. Great Island is the main one, with smaller islands around it at the mouth of the Piscataqua (Town of New Castle). Two bridges and a causeway connect Frame Point in Portsmouth to the northwest corner of Great Island (Wikipedia). Getting equipment on and off the island takes planning, so visits are booked ahead and sized to the job.

Storms can close roads. Wentworth Road, which is Route 1B and links the island toward Rye, has been shut when high tide and surge reached the roadway. If a run comes down in a storm, we will set the earliest visit we can once the road allows.

Fascia on pre-1940 houses

About a third of New Castle's homes, 32%, were built before 1940 (ACS 2020-24). On houses that old, water that has leaked behind a gutter for years can soften the trim board it hangs from. We press on the fascia at several points before we price anything, because a new gutter on rotten wood fails early. If the trim has to come off, we say so and list it as its own line in writing.

Small lots, short downspouts

On a small island, lots are often compact, and the shoreline is never far. A downspout needs somewhere to empty that does not send water to a neighbor. We can sometimes move a downspout to a better corner or add an extension along a wall.

Forts, the Common and the town office

Fort Constitution and Fort Stark are historic sites on the island, and Great Island Common is a town property (Wikipedia, Town of New Castle). Wentworth by the Sea sits on the island too. For permits, the building inspector's page says replacing roofing needs a general building permit. We could not confirm gutters, so ask the town first, and ask whether your house has any review for exterior changes.

Getting to the island

New Castle is about 34 miles from Hampstead, and trips are booked ahead. We may group them with Portsmouth or Rye jobs. For a visit, we walk the roofline, measure the runs and write the price down. Rye, Portsmouth and Newington are the nearest towns on our list, all within Rockingham County.

Gutter questions from New Castle

Do New Castle's older homes have special rules for new gutters?

Possibly. The town's antique houses sit under historic-character expectations, and we do not know your property's rules. Ask New Castle's town office before you change the look of the eaves. Once you know, we will quote to it in writing and tell you what we can supply.

How far is New Castle from Hampstead?

About 34 miles, or roughly 45 minutes by our estimate. It is one of our longer trips, so we book visits ahead and may group them with Portsmouth or Rye jobs. Tell us the address and what you are seeing, and we will set the earliest visit we can.

What gutter material suits an island home in New Castle?

Aluminum is the usual choice because it does not rust, and the hangers and fasteners are where salt does damage. Ask any installer what theirs are made of. We install seamless aluminum in white, black and other colors, and we can look at your house before we quote.
