Rochester sits on the Cocheco River, with the Spaulding Turnpike and Route 125 both running through it. That layout produces two different gutter customers. One lives in an older house near downtown. The other owns or manages a low commercial roof along the highway.

Older downtown homes and repair work

The median Rochester home was built in 1978, and 66% are owner-occupied (ACS 2020-24). Homes that old, closer to the center, are the ones likely to have gutters patched more than once. A new run is not always the answer. A leaking seam, a loose hanger or a sagging section can be fixed where it is, and gutter repair is where most of these homes start.

When the fascia behind the gutter is soft or the system is too far gone, gutter installation with seamless runs replaces it.

Route 125 and Turnpike commercial roofs

Rochester's strip along the Spaulding Turnpike, a six-lane highway, and Route 125 has plenty of low commercial buildings. A low commercial roof with a long gutter and a few downspouts does not tolerate a clog. Water backs up and goes over the edge at the lot or entrance.

Our commercial gutters page covers cleaning and repair on large buildings, including commercial gutter repair for seams that have opened. Tell us the building size, the access and any business hours we need to work around, and we plan the visit.

A 581-foot high point and 41 inches of precipitation

Rochester is mostly low. Its highest point, Chestnut Hill, is only 581 feet, and the Cocheco River runs through the center. Average annual precipitation is about 41 inches (1991-2020 normals at Skyhaven Airport). Snow melts on the warm part of a roof and refreezes at the cold eaves, whether or not gutters are there.

A 1978 median home has often had its seams resealed once or twice, and the hangers carry that snow. Look at the lowest corner of the roof, where water drains into the downspout, for rust streaks, a stained fascia or a gap at the elbow. Older houses near the river can have water-stained trim behind a gutter that looks fine from the street.

Rochester Common, the Fair and the Turnpike

Rochester Common holds a bandstand built in 1914 and a Civil War monument, and the fair that began in 1875 is now the Granite State Fair. The Spaulding Turnpike is a six-lane highway through the city, Route 125 runs north and south through the center, and Route 11 heads west toward Alton and Laconia.

The city's Building and Licensing Services office handles building permits. Whether routine gutter work needs a permit is unconfirmed, so check with the city first. Buried drain lines need a Dig Safe call first.

A 55-minute trip, booked ahead

Rochester is one of our farther towns. We book visits ahead, and a trip may be grouped with other jobs in the area, so a call a week or two before you need the work works best. Give us the address and describe what the gutters are doing. We look at the roofline, then write the price down.

Gonic, the Common and the rest of town

Rochester also includes Gonic, a village on the Cocheco River south of downtown along Route 125. For nearby towns, see Somersworth, Farmington and the Strafford County page.

What customers say

“He called me on Tuesday to tell me that there is rain expected and he would like to move the job up to Wednesday (today). I thought that was very professional of him to reach out and reschedule.”

Gutter questions from Rochester

Is repair or replacement better for an older Rochester house?

Repair, if the gutter metal and the fascia behind it are sound. A leaking seam or loose hanger is a small fix. Replacement makes sense when runs are bent, rusted through or pulling away from soft wood. We look at both the gutter and the board behind it, then tell you which route is cheaper.

Do you service commercial roofs in Rochester, NH?

Yes. We do commercial gutter cleaning and repair, and Rochester has plenty of low commercial roofs along Route 125 and by the Spaulding Turnpike. Send the building size, the roof type and any access limits. We visit first and then write the price down.

How far ahead should I book gutter work in Rochester?

Call as early as you can. Rochester is about 55 minutes from Hampstead, so we book these trips ahead and may group them with other jobs nearby. A firm date takes longer than for a close-by town, and for urgent work we will set the earliest visit we can.
